"The place to go" for a "weekend getaway" with a real "Galveston feel", this "old grande dame by the sea" set in a "historic" 1911 building "within walking distance of restaurants and shops" boasts "beautiful common areas", a "recently opened" "elegant spa" and "superb" service; but rooms are "tiny" and "old-school" say a few; N.B. the property was temporarily closed at press time to assess damage from Hurricane Ike.

Great historic hotel.
Smaller hotel room.
The Galvez met our expectations. We were able to valet park the car while on a cruise too. It only required one night stay.

It looked very nice from the outside.
Was not worth the money.
It looked amazing from the outside. Staff was rude, and the rooms were not as nice as I would have expected.

There was a cool mail slot on all the floors that dropped down to the mail box in the lobby.
It needs to be refurbished. And, the staff wasn’t knowledgeable about services at the hotel.

The room that we were placed in had a spectacular view of Galveston Bay.
There were still some areas under construction and guests had to walk through these areas.

The atmosphere was nice, facilities were clean and attractive.
Construction began taking place early in the morning, and we were unable to sleep in due to the sound of jackhammers and saws.
I think that the Hotel Galvez could be a lovely, romantic experience for a couple. We were, however, on a vacation and expected to be able to sleep in. Starting around 7:30, the sound of jackhammers, hammers, and saws was so loud and obnoxious that it was unpleasant to stay in bed and impossible to sleep. I fully understand the need for the hotel to renovate, but I am of the opinion that the guests at the time need to be placed strategically away from all the noise. ...read more

Elegant, friendly, efficient, historical, beautiful.
Only possible complaint is that I had to ask the staff to clean the room. Don't know if there was a mixup or another reason.
The Hotel Galvez was a wonderful experience. It combines elegance and history, yet is very down to earth and friendly at the same time. The room was beautiful and clean, and the staff was friendly.
